“Wonderful folksy settings...a must for any devotee
of Coppin or Shakespeare”
What's On in Birmingham

For many years, the songs and and music of Johnny Coppin have been an integral part of the Festival Players Theatre Company productions of Shakespeare's comedies and one of the major reasons for its growing reputation at the Three Choirs Festival and at other Festivals, country houses and castles throughout the UK. In response to public demand, a tape was  released of the best song-settings from productions 1991 to 1997.

The 15 tracks on the album include settings of the very popular "Come Live With Me And Be My Love" (a poem by Christopher Marlowe) from both "The Winter's Tale" and "The Merry Wives"; "In Such a Night" the duet from "The Merchant Of Venice"; "Benedick's Song" from "Much Ado About Nothing", as well as four songs from "As You Like It" - "It Was a Lover and His Lass", "The Lord's Song", "Hymen's Hymn" and "Blow, Blow Thou Winter Wind".

Guest musicians include singer Nonny James from BBC Radio Hereford and Worcs, Paul Burgess (recorders/violin), Phil Beer (Show of Hands) and Geoff March (ex-Decameron on cello). The album also includes short scene-setting readings selected and read by Trish Knight-Webb (Director of the Festival Players) and Stephen Wright (BBC Radio Gloucestershire). The album was co-produced and engineered by Mick Dolan and John Acock.
